Torchwood: Children of the Earth
Just got done watching Season 3 of Torchwood:
Seriously, WTF.
Did they set out to kill the show? I mean, lay it down in the street with it's teeth against the curb and stomp its brains out? Honestly?
First of all, there was nothing of the uplifting quality that I love about Dr. Who. Nothing about the redeeming qualities of the human race, nothing about the human spirit overcoming adversity by relying on its better nature, none of that.
And so completely unbelievable. There's no way in hell you could get soldiers to tear children out of their homes on their own soil. It took Hitler years of propaganda to be able to overcome that, and they thought they could get them to do it in 24 hours? No way. Nuh-uh. Not happening.
Also, Wow. Did he lose his nerve when it came to killing Gwen? Because he killed off every other character in the show. Jack? Not the same Jack we knew at the beginning of the show. Giving up his own grandson? No, I'm sorry, I just don't buy it.
Also, how do you think society would fall apart after something like that? How could anyone ever trust their government ever again?
Shoddy, shoddy writing. Just pfeh.
I want my money back.

They explicitly threatened the soldiers with danger to their own children if they didn't comply. I don't know about you, but if I were faced with that, I'm not very proud of the choice I know I would make.

Someone else pointed out that getting rid of the undesirable 10% would have hit the neighborhoods where a lot of the military came from. I'm just not buying it. Yes, I think our society is asleep at the wheel, but when someone comes to take your kids, you wake up FAST.

Alternately, I present the following equally undeniable fact: RTD does not care about making sense. As plot holes go, this is one of his lesser ones.
*sigh* I am not going to miss him at all.
