Her hands move over the sore muscle and he winces, hissing through gritted teeth.

"Sit still."

"I am sitting still. That stuff smells like horse liniment."

"Well, trust me, it works. Don't be such a baby."

"Don't make me turn you over my knee."

She cocks an eyebrow at him.

"I'll do it, don't think I won't -- oh fuck, that burns."

"That means it's working. And maybe next time you'll think twice about your choice of locations."

He slits his eyes at her, leaning in to nip at her ear. "Didn't hear you complaining at the time."

She shivers, a flush of colour tinting her cheeks at the memory.

The wide floor is set in a mosaic of green glass, a series of curving lines like the ocean before a storm. The room itself has no walls it seems, the space delineated by gently undulating silks in all the colours of the sea. In the center of the room, there is a dark pool, shimmering with opalescence, lit from unseen fire in the depths. And over head, twisting in some invisible current, ribbons of stars, thousands of tiny pearls lit from within, cast a dim glow across the red head's pale cheeks.

The fae tilts her head to one side, holding out a hand to the woman standing in the doorway.

"Where angels fear to tread..."

"Cherie, you are no angel."
