Another day, another dollar

First and foremost, my thoughts are with you.  I hope you're holding up.  I know how busy you are, I know all the things that have to be taken care of and above all, I know you're too busy to be online right now.  But I just want you to know your absence is felt deeply.  I miss you, my friend and I hope you're okay.  ~bumps~

And then, five things make a post:

- They laid off 100 more folks from my office on Wednesday, and my new manager called a team meeting, the first of its kind since my previous manager was converted from a full time employee to an outside contractor.  At 4pm.  On the day they laid off 100 people.  I had a minor freak out.  Turned out it was for nothing.  Oh except no one knows if I have a job come the first of July.    :|

- My cough lingers, mostly because I haven't been sleeping.  Turns out months of constant low grade stress is not healthy for a body.  Who knew?

- I bought yarn! And circular needles!  And the yarn got here but the needles haven't yet.  I will do the sock thing before the year is done if it kills me.

- I also got new Threadless shirts.  Yay $5 tshirts!  (Shelf Life x2, Odd But Cute x2, & I Can't Draw, for those of you keeping score at home. This balances out the insane full price I paid for Ode To Joy x2.  Yes, I can quit anytime I want.)

- I also got my soap order from Villainess.net.  Mmmmm soap.  Beautiful packaging, smells fantastic, reasonable prices for boutique soap, one of those things I love, free samples. I have yet to test drive, so when I do, I'll let you know.  BPAL may have a competitor in my online shopping roster.

Bonus question:  How do you decide when to do OOMs?  Should I be doing OOMs for Olga, who I haven't tagged in with in forever?  How about Earl?  What about River's margin quotes?  Does anybody read those things?  Tell me your philosophy on OOMs.  Inquiring minds want to know.

omg I love Villainess. I have for years. I've bought way more Villainess than I have BPAL, 'cos it's cheaper. And, being soap, has a practical quality to it as well. Well. That's what I tell myself.

As for OOMs, I do them when something outside Milliways happens and it's too important to just say "okay so that happened." Last year, I did a thing where Cal was able to make one final visit home before his world was closed off to him forever; obviously, this required OOMing, as it was far too important to merely handwave. If you're taking your pup through canon, it's a good way to hit the high points of canon without getting laborious about it. I OOMed Javert's argument with Valjean over Fantine's sentencing because it's the moment when Javert pretty much loses his shit and starts actively campaigning against Valjean, but I didn't bother with the whole cart incident because it's just one in a series of "but wait!" moments for him.

Earl is tricky; I suspect some of his important moments are ones we won't realize are important until the series arc has finished unfolding. At the very least, I imagine you'd definitely want to do some for the season finale arcs. Especially the stuff with Leon, omg.

I write OOMs assuming that only the people interested in my pups might read them; mostly, they're for me, to cement some things in my head that I need to be clear on.

You've hit the nail on the head with Villainess. I will use the soap, whereas the smell pretty BPAL just sits in the kit and only gets brought out for special occasions, if I remember.

Re: OOMS:

Yeah, there are a lot of things I didn't even begin to consider when I took on Earl. "Leon, omg" being first and foremost among them. He's shown me some amazing things in just a very short time. (Is it completely kooky to feel honored to have a headvoice? I dunno.)
